1. Review of Norms & Purpose:"As a Learning Team we share and learn in order to Lead"
Sharing Ideas
Discussion.
We discussed that Norms are a group responsibility. Linda commented that we need to speak up - herself included - to address the person when they may be inappropriately addressing someone. We may need a signal to re-direct - "Let's get back on topic" - but we are on topic during some of these times. Use the time-out signal - which means this is not the time for what is happening, so we can stop and gather again around the topic at hand and tabling items we need to discuss later. The hand signal will be added to the Norms page - Laura also stated that we are in public areas - and we want to be a respected group in the district.
2. Media/Integration Changes Sharing - Wade discussed the changes in the technology department forthcoming (draft form) for district technology. Tina will be a technology integrationist as of July 1. The chart outlines different areas of the technology dept. technology and learning/technology support & technology operations & infrastructure. Jennifer Samec will be the TOSA for media review starting July 1. Jennifer Huwe is the head of Support including Skyward. Donna Peterson will take over the support role at WHS - in addition to her current role for the entire district. Joe McNeal's position has changed to a support role with his work in the AV areas of technology. Discussion - Is Joe McNeal's job different? His job is the same continue to contact him with AV concerns. Becky has requested that media specialists receive the dept. meeting minutes. Wade is willing to send out the notes as long as the content is kept to the group because many things are in draft form and are not public. Action Item - The District Technology Para minutes will be shared with the media group in the future.
3. Turning Technologies Sharing - we have the Turning Technologies initiative / project coming.
We need media help - collection the sets of the SRD's and have them returned to the tech office. Please collect the devices, receivers (USB receiver) and storage bag.
We will be prepping these SRDs for next school year.
As we go into the next year - we will need this group's help in management for next year.
SRD's will not be used for summer school.
Challenges- try to think of answers to challenges not just the problems.
Batteries will be replaced through building technology budget item. Action Items:
Media Specialists - Collect sets
The logistics notes for the SRD project will be shared with this group.
4. Curriculum Review Process Discussion - Jennifer states that step one in the process is to gather information, research programs and collecting data. We have the program review page where we have begun collecting information about media and technology programs. Please start adding items to this page throughout the summer. What are the big ideas around media and technology and are modeling a great program. Find things that are very different from what we are doing today = wide open idea collecting. What does the future look like? How do we best serve our constituents.
Action Item - find great examples of media programs and what they are doing in the media / technology area.
5. AASL Discussion - Options for add-ons - to attend extra sessions. If you want to attend other workshops how can we handle adding these items. Possibilities are building PD funds - so you can apply through your building - they usually have a budget code that they can give to Bobbi so she can apply the charge to their budget code. Judith is under the assumption that you can add items once you have registered and you can pay for it separately. Action Item - please get your registration form to Judith St. Cyr and she will submit to Bobbi - we are responsible for our own add-ons. Judith will let us know what the process is for the add-ons.
6. Annual Report Discussion - Do we still want to proceed with this? Do we want to wait and align this with what we are doing. Do we want to create something to give us a baseline for the future. We have talked about using it as a PR piece instead of a linear report to present to our principal's only. If we could organize how we want it to look - and follow the same format. Is our plan to create a report in 21 days? Some of us don't feel prepared to create a report because we do not have data to support the report. Judith R. suggests we create a media sampler just to give us something to show. Deb suggests that we create something that is more a marketing piece - "here's what we can do to help your kids" We need to know our audience - so we can tailor the information given to that specific group. Wade gives the example of the Levy - two years prior Wade has built the picture of what is going to happen and the outcome of tech - tells the story before it becomes a money issue. Video - PR public before you go into the data piece. Lay the groundwork for the community so it tells a story so we can answer some of the questions prior the data piece. We need to package what we do so people know what we do. Action Item - PR video piece - what are the key points: service, literacy, creativity, technology, research - we need still pictures - book club, pictures of kids, book bowl, collection statistics, please get these items to Jenn Samec. Please get these items to Jennifer Samec by May 20th.
7. Destiny Discussion: Update from Jennifer Huwe
FYI for Destiny patron file update -
Skyward export is working
ISCorp is moving the file to their SFTP site
Bob has been able to get the file from the site (as have I)
Bob has created the template to link the Skyward export to Destiny fields
Bob has completed the scheduling and data conversion pieces
Bob is working on the process to automatically pull the data from ISCorp's SFTP site
At this time SFTP is the only option to pull data from ISCorp – this is the same process
we use to upload data (like student photos) to post into Skyward. ISCorp is working on
a new data transport process so we can directly upload files to student portfolios etc through the web interface.
I'd say we are 90% complete - ETA June 1st ' ish. Slowness issues in Destiny
Deb M. brought up that the slowness in Destiny may cause issues with checkouts etc. Deb has found that books that they thought were checked in were not - and it aligned with the slow response time from Destiny. Sometimes when scanning it takes about 3 minutes to check out a book. Media personnel have been told to restart their machines when this happens. Action Item - Wade will check in with tech support to find out what may be the problem.
8. Web Update Discussion - Web site will go live July 1. The old will be accessible by staff internally now until next year ( better part of next year - December / January). This includes teacher web pages on current site, blogs, and teacher created web pages. Main pages will be created by July 1. It has gone out through different messages - staff notebook, KDS, Communicator, it has been communicated - Wade has not sent an e-mail specifically but he will highlight that it is coming - it will happen at this time, outline what we want you to do between now and July. There is no way to automatically convert current content to the new site. Where does media go? Wade explained the navigation of the new page and potential areas where media could be placed on the web page. Quick links, Academics, For Students, For Parents - please focus and think about where you want these items.
Wade also demonstrated VIMEO and suggested that we may have a media or technology channel. Buildings will be allowed to upload their own content - it will have to go through a gate keeper - Dave C. before it goes live. Action Items - please think about where the links should be, between now and then Wade will try to get you in and where you want to be.
